Swarnaprashan Sanskaar
Swarnaprashana sanskar is way of natural vaccination of child after birth. A mixture of processed gold mixed along with natural honey and medicated clarified butter (ghee) is given to the new born to develop immunity.

Out of 16 essential Sanskaar, Swarnaprashana is one of the most important and essential sanskaar said in the age old texts of Ayurveda. When it is to be done?
Right at Birth Swarnaprashana should be administered to the child.
Yes, even prior giving the mother’s milk to her baby!
After that Swarnaprashana should be administered on every Pushya Nakshatra upto child attains age of 5yrs.
However further upto 16yrs of age it can be continued.
Why Pushya Nakshatra?
You can administer Swarnaprashana daily too.
However, besides being costly in acts more like a Rasayan dravya instead of acting like a immune booster. Please consult your Vaidya for understanding the whole concept.

Moreover, on Pushya Nakshatra properties of Swarna(Gold) are enhanced by the constellation of stars.

Who Shall do it?
Generally a child gets everything from his/her mother right from being in the womb, as they are connected with each other.
But a father gets connected to the child only after his/her birth. Hence, to increase the bondage of love and affection between the child and father; it is expected to be done by the father of that child.
Moreover, when it is given with an intention to boost immunity of the child Pursharthabhava gets transferred into the child. Exactly, like Garbhasanskaar is done!

Thus, a father is expected to do the swarnaprashana sanskaar by dipping his index finger once into the kalpa and then giving that finger to be sucked by his child.
